Recent News About This Successful Theater Will Make You Happy
I was up late the other night scrolling through social media when I came across a late-night post on Facebook from Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus. He had just finished up dinner with family and had big news to share.
Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center in Chester, New York, Sold
Apparently, he had just gotten word that the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center at 231 Creamery Pond Road in Chester, New York, was transferring ownership to Orange County. I hadn't even realized that they were considering selling.

By digging around a bit, I found out that back in July, the Orange County Government had posted that Executive Neuhaus had announced that the County Legislature had voted 21-0 in favor of purchasing the Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center. Fast forward to this past week, and in just over a month, the deal is done.
According to Executive Neuhaus's post, the plan is to revitalize the property. There will be updates to some of the facilities, and the plan is to make it a place for the community to enjoy shows, both free and with admission.
Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center Will Undergo Transition
In the past, the list of performers who have taken the stage at Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center reads like a who's who. Every type of music, a variety of comedians, and even theater performances have graced the stage over the years. Currently, they have shows booked through March 2026.

As the transition progresses, I will be sure to watch for updates that I can share here. This seems to be a great opportunity for both the county and the theater, which has been a hub for both the creative and artistic community since 1992.
The 689-seat theater, according to sugarloafpacny.com has been home to international touring companies, summer concert series, gallery exhibits, film festivals, weddings, community educational programs, and more.
