Netflix Hottest Series Comes to an End

Stranger Things has been one of the most popular series on Netflix for the last 10 years.

Season one, which debut in 2016, introduced us to Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lukas, Will, Nancy, Steve and Jonathan. A bunch of young kids in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana living a normal midwestern life until Will goes missing.

His disappearance triggers the unraveling of a parallel universe called the Upside Down. We also learn that Eleven has actually escaped a scientific lab and has psychokinesis powers.

Things get, well, strange. That's the best breakdown we could give you without this becoming a spoiler article. After 5 seasons, Stranger Things came to an end on December 31st, 2025.

Is Stranger Things Based off of a New York Conspiracy Theory?

The show was created by the Duffer Brothers who say it was inspired by their love of 80s pop culture and Steven King.

When the Duffer Brothers were first coming up with the show it wasn't called Stranger Things...it was called the Montauk Project.

Have you ever wondered why? Get your tin foil hats ready!

According to Wikipedia, The Montauk Project alleges that there were U.S. government projects "conducted at Camp Hero or Montauk Air Force Station" on Long Island.

The site goes on to say the projects were conducted "for the purpose of developing psychological warfare techniques and exotic research including time travel."

A man named Preston Nichols claims he was "abducted" to participate in testes against his will. Nicholas was an author who after his alleged experiences wrote a book series called the Montauk Project.

Conspiracy theories also claim that the scientist at the facility on Long Island would kidnap runaway children and perform experiments on them. Kind of like what we see in the Stranger Things series.

Other theorist claim are secret tunnels under Camp Hero that were used to traffic children in and out of the facility.
