New York State Police are currently investigating an accident which occurred just before 10 p.m, on Friday night leaving an Astoria woman hospitalized in critical condition.

At approximately 9:53 p.m. Tina L. Manginelli, 40, of Kingston was driving north on I-87 near Exit 17 when her 2012 Hyundai Elantra crashed into the back of a 2013 Ford Econoline Van. As a result of the impact, the State Police reported that the driver of the van lost control of his vehicle causing it to roll over.

A passenger in the van, Sarah E. Winberger, 38, of Astoria, was ejected from the vehicle and was then hit by a 2006 Subaru Forester driven by Susan B. Brown, 71, of New York. She was taken to Westchester Medical Center for what were described as "serious internal and facial injuries" and is listed in critical condition.

New York State Police identified the driver of the van as 39-year-old Guy Laor of Rego Park. He and three other passengers in the van were taken to St. Luke's Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries. Brown was not injured in the accident.

Following the accident Manginelli was charged with driving while intoxicated and second degree vehicular assault. She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear again in the Town of Newburgh Court on January 24.
