Speeding Flatbed Strikes Several Large Trees in Ulster County
The driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for chest and back injuries.
On August, 1 at approximately 11:42 a.m. Saugerties Police responded to Route 212 for a reported Tractor Trailer Accident with injuries.
An investigation determined that Thomas Herschel, 61, of Malden on the Hudson was operating a 2019 Western Star Flatbed Truck, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, losing control of the truck.
The truck went off the roadway traveling approximately 175 feet, striking a state road sign, before re-entering the roadway and crossing over into the west bound lane of route 212, continuing northerly off the roadway and into a heavily wooded area just east of the South Peak Veterinary Hospital.
The truck came to a rest in the woods after striking several large trees. Herschel was treated at the scene and transported to Health Alliance Hospital where he is still being treated.
Herschel was issued tickets for speed not reasonable and prudent.
