My neighbors that live a few doors down from me had a fire last night and lost almost everything.  All of them escaped without incident but the majority of their stuff is gone.

It was a small electrical fire but the smoke alarms never went off.  Firefighters aren't sure why but it could be an underlying issue.

A recall of over 200,000 Universal Security Instruments smoke detectors has been issued because the units aren't detecting smoke and alarming with a sound as they are designed.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the smoke detectors were sold between July 2015 and December 2016 with the model numbers MI3050S and MI3050SB and 'Universal' and 'Smoke & Fire Alarm' are printed on the package cover .

We don't know yet if the neighbors fire had anything to do with the recall but if anything, it got me the info on the recall to pass on.

Check your smoke detectors, do a test and call the Fire Department if you are unsure.
