If you have a cat that spends most times in the house you may have had it de-clawed. I'm not a cat person but I have always said that doing that just sounds wrong, and probably hurts like hell.

Well it looks like that may not be an option anymore. According to the Daily News, Manhattan Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthalis trying to stop cat declawing by introducing a Bill that will ban it. The bill is being backed by the Humane Society of New York and would be the nation's first statewide ban on cat

In an interview with Gothamist, Rosenthal called the practice of declawing inhumane:

"There's no reason to do it unless the animal has infection that is never going away, or if there is a cancer or tumor-related issue in the claw. It's basically done because humans want it done, and I don't think it's our right to mutilate our animals for our own satisfaction."

The American Veterinary Medical Association says that cat declawing should be a last resort but have not fully supported a ban on the procedure

The next step for the bill would be to be introduced to the State Senate.
