Saugerties Police Officer Arrested After Illegal Sexual Acts

The Saugerties Police Department shared details into the arrest of one of their own.

On July 14th, 2025, the Saugerties Police Department posted an article on their Facebook page that detailed the arrest of a part-time Police Officer.

Officer Sydney Mills, according to the report, was arrested at the Saugerties Police Department after an investigation into "alleged sexual acts."

The report goes on to state that the investigation began several months ago after "a Saugerties Police Officer received information about the situation" and "immediately reported it to the Chief of Police."

Police Officer Sydney Mills Charged with Several Criminal Sexual Acts

In the report we learn former Officer Mills was taken into custody by the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and later arraigned in Ulster County Court by Judge Brian Rounds.

Mills was arraigned on the following:

Criminal Sexual Act 2nd Degree
Criminal Sexual Act 3rd Degree
Rape in the 3rd Degree,
Misdemeanor of Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree.

Mills was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail. At this time, Mills has been remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.

The Saugerties Police Department concludes their post with the following message to the community "We understand that public trust is essential for our agency's effectiveness, and we will continue to work towards maintaining that trust."

They add:

We are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for our citizens, and we will not tolerate any behavior that compromises the trust our community deserves.

Saugerties Community Speaks Out Against Former Police Officer

The Saugerties, New York community took to the comment section of the arrest post to make their voices heard.

One comment reads "It is about time!! Been going on for a long time!"

Another reads:

This is the second major sexual misconduct case coming out of this police department. We deserve to hear some answers as to what happened and tentative response responses out as to how you guys are going to make sure this isn’t gonna happen again. I’m trying to “keep the faith.” but Saugerties PD you’re making it difficult.

The Saugerties Police Department also added in their report on the arrest "We want to assure the community that we take these allegations seriously and will cooperate fully with the investigation. "
