Saugerties High School Grad Gets Drafted by the Chicago Cubs
Ethan Conrad, a 2022 graduate of Saugerties High School, recieved some great news over the weekend.
The outfielder, who played baseball at Marist University and then later at Wake Forest, was drafted in the 1st round of the 2025 MLB Draft. Conrad was pick number 17 and will have a future in the mid-west with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Head Coach of Marist Baseball, Lance Ratchford, shared his excitement for Conrad in a statement on the schools website saying:
"This is an incredible moment and opportunity ahead for him. His journey started here in a Red Fox uniform, and we are forever appreciative of his time here. We can't wait to see what the future holds as he begins his journey to the Big Leagues."
In just 2 seasons at Marist Conrad hit .359 with 12 home runs, 84 runs batted in, 90 runs scored, 27 doubles, 15 triples, and had 38 stolen bases.
Ethan Conrad Nursing Dislocated Shoulder
According to MLB.com, Conrad is currently nursing a dislocated left shoulder injury. The website reports he suffered season ending injury with "a labral tear while diving for a ball" back in March.
Conrad underwent surgery back in April which was performed by head physician of the New York Yankees, Dr Christopher S. Ahmad.
The Saugerties native told the website he has "full range of motion back" and that he is focusing on strength work. Vice President of Cubs scouting told MLB:
He’s probably going to take the rest of the summer and fall to recover and rehab and then get to Spring Training 100 percent.
In a conversation with the Chicago Tribune Conrad said of missing the last part of the season this year "I didn’t know what was going to happen with the draft, and I was really upset not being able to help my teammates out."
Conrad continued:
And then being able to get selected 17th is just super crazy. I wasn’t expecting it, and I’m just super grateful, and I’m super excited to get going.”
