Closed or Bankrupt

Experts say that more than 7,100 stores have already closed for good through the end of November 2024. That’s a whopping 69% jump from the same time last year, according to recent data from research firm CoreSight shared by CBS. Not only was it a record-type year for closures but they also shared that forty-five retailers have filed for bankruptcy so far this year, approximately 20 more than in all of 2023.

Why is It So Bad?

The reasons behind many of the store closures reported this year (list below) vary but most have said that shopping habits have changed so much that many of them need fewer brick-and-mortar stores. Others have blamed supply chain issues, retail theft, and rising labor costs as to why they have either filed for bankruptcy or closed numerous locations.
