Remember When The Great October Snowstorm Hit the Hudson Valley in 2011?
Do You Remember the Great October Snowstorm Back in 2011?
It's been cooler this year as we head into Halloween. Which made us, and some others in the weather world, reminisce about a huge snowstorm that blew through the area 14 years ago.
Do you remember the snowstorm that blew through the region between October 29th and 30th?
I remember going to a football game in Kingston earlier in the day when the snow started to fall with plans to drive to Connecticut later in the afternoon. Unfortunately, my plans were derailed as I got snowed in, in Poughkeepsie.
Meteorologist Ben Noll, who is from the Orange County area, shared these photos of the nor'easter on his social media earlier this week:
The snow was heavy and snapping branches on trees that were still flush with leaves causing chaos across the region with power outages.
Dutchess County Gets Slammed By Winter Weather in 2011
The National Weather Service has a breakdown of all the counties in New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut that were effected by the October 2011 storm.
And looking at the numbers, in New York it looks like Dutchess County go the worst of it.
Millbrook recorded 21.6 inches of snow, Pine Plains got 17.5 inches, Wappingers saw 11.5 inches while Rhinebeck and Poughkeepsie recorded 8 inches of snow.
Massachusetts, in the Berkshires, saw anywhere between 26.5 inches to 23 inches.
Capital Region Meteorologist Steve Caporizzo shared the stats from the storm, check it out below:

Winter Predictions For the Hudson Valley 2025
Will this years winter be bad as the storm in 2011? I guess we'll have to wait and see, but there have been some predictions that have us bundling up.
The Farmers Almanac says the northeast is in for a "wild ride" and tell us to get our winter jackets ready.
Steve Caporizzo came across a Woolly Bear earlier this fall and it predicts a "Harsh start to the winter and a milder second half or depending on interpretation….a moderate winter."
