Price Chopper Closing Hudson Valley Location

A local price Chopper store will be closing down, leaving 106 employees without a job.

Our area has seen an upheaval in the supermarket business over the past few years. In 2016 A&P filed for bankruptcy, turning over operation of their Hudson Valley locations to Acme and Shop Rite. Soon after that, Hannaford and Stop and Shop merged into one company, forcing them to sell of some of their stores to Tops and Acme. Just one year after converting from Stop and Shop, the Tops location on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls closed their doors for good in 2017.

According to Hudson Valley 360, the Hudson Valley will be losing another supermarket this Fall. Price Chopper on Fairview Avenue in Hudson will be shutting their doors by the end of next month. The closing has been blamed on the "economic decline" of the area surrounding the supermarket.

Shoppers will have to find another location to do their grocery shopping and employees will be given the chance to relocate to another Price Chopper location, although jobs are not guaranteed.

The nearest Price Chopper locations will now be on Route 66 in Ghent and West Bridge Street in Catskill.
