Sunday August 26th is the actually the "Dog Day of Summer". We talk about the dog days of summer when we are referring to the heat and humidity like we have had to endure these past few weeks this summer but the actual dog day of summer is this coming Sunday.

According to the National Calendar of Days August 26th is National Dog Day. It has been observed annually since its inception in 2004. This day is designed to encourage dog ownership of all breeds and to strive to get all dogs safe happy home. Obviously, this is a day that recognizes what dogs do for their human companion and the National Dog Day Foundation has an annual goal to get 10,000 dog adopted.

Celebrating National Dog Days can be fun whether you have a dog or just wish you did. National Dog Day is a great day to donate to your local shelter and find out how you can help by volunteering. Organizations that rescue dogs like the ASPCA and Pets Alive even Tito's Vodka have ideas and ways you can help dogs in your community and all around the globe.

The Founder of Tito's Vodka has started Vodka for Dog People. This came out of him noticing the amount of stray dogs near his distillery and wanting to help get them care. The story is awesome and the project is really cool. I happen to be a fan of Tito's so I plan to celebrate National Dog Day by raising a Tito's cocktail and toasting my rescue girl Minnie Pearl.
