
Poughkeepsie Mourns the Loss of Dedicated Police K9
The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department has announced the passing of a valued member of the department after 12 years of service.
City of Poughkeepsie Police K9 Passes Away
The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department shared sad news on its Facebook page this week, announcing that one of its three K9s had passed away.
"The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is deeply saddened to announce the passing of K9 Falcone, a valued member of the department and trusted partner to Police Officer Michael Barbagallo."
K9 Falcone, named after City of Poughkeepsie Detective John M. Falcone, who was tragically killed in the line of duty in 2011, faithfully served the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department for 12 years.

K9 Falcone joined the department in 2012 after completing training at Orange County K9 Academy and assisted in narcotics detection, suspect apprehension, and crowd control throughout his career. K9 Falcone also contributed to numerous successful operations and was instrumental in keeping the City of Poughkeepsie safe.
K9 Falcone Remembered Fondly
Over the years, K9 Falcone and Officer Barbagallo would regularly attend area schools and community events, conducting demonstrations and letting folks pet the brave dog throughout Poughkeepsie. K9 Falcone was especially loved by children and residents alike, according to the department's post.
The post ended by saying, "K9 Falcone will be remembered for his loyalty, bravery, and unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the citizens of Poughkeepsie."
