A Kingston man who allegedly forged and cashed a family member’s check was found to be in possession of heroin and a needle.

State Police were investigating a complaint of an individual who cashed a forged check at a bank in the Town of Ulster. Police allege that 30-year-old Wayne L. Lewis, of Kingston, stole a check from a family member, wrote the check out to himself for $800, and signed the check using the family member’s name.

When police located Lewis to charge him he was allegedly found to be in possession of a quantity of heroin and a hypodermic needle.

Lewis was charged with 2nd-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony, petit larceny, 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a hypodermic instrument, misdemeanors.

LEWIS was arraigned in the Town of Ulster court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $2,500 bond.
