It seems like these scams are popping up all over the Hudson Valley and this time it hit Ulster County.

According to the Daily Freeman, Ellenville village police are saying that a male named Brian King contacted an elderly couple stating he was from the Internal Revenue Service and that the couple owed back taxes.

He then directed the couple to withdraw $4,900 from the bank and once that was done they were to contact him and he would tell them what store to go to so they could Western Union him the money.

Police also said that the man told the couple that if they didn't complete the transaction in 2 hours they would be jailed for falling to pay the back taxes.

The couple followed the mans instructions and went to their bank and told them what was going on and the bank referred them to the police.

Village Police Chief Philip Mattracion told the Freeman that the IRS does not contact people by phone to demand money and people should not send money to anyone calling them and claiming to represent themselves as government agents.

Anyone receiving a call like this should contact local police immediately.
