We were lucky enough to have Charlie and Geronimo in studio this morning. They are from the Paws of War organization. The Paws of War program provides service dogs to veterans suffering from PTSD or Traumatic Brain Injuries.

A little background on Charlie, who from just a couple of meetings really loves what he does. Charlie is a combat veteran, having served as a paratrooper in Desert Storm, so he is very tuned in to the need to help our veterans as they return to civilian life. In addition to being a veteran, Charlie is a Sergeant with the City of Newburgh Police Department and is the current K9 supervisor there. He also runs Blue Line K9 Services, a dog training business.

What do service dogs do? Service dogs help our veterans in need by providing them with a purpose; something to care for and also with the feeling of having a dog who is watching their back. It is our hope that a service dog will help a veteran who is struggling to feel more secure and to thereby feel more comfortable interacting with others, and to regain some sense of normalcy.

If you know a veteran that could benefit from a service dog or you want to make a donation, please go HERE!
