Did You See This Overloaded Truck Stopped by New York State Police?

If you spend any time driving on New York roads or highways the odds say at one time or another you've driven past another vehicle that has had something that looks out of place.

It Has to Fit

Often it happens when someone purchases something at a home goods or furniture store without measuring their vehicles to see if what they bought will even fit inside to transport home. I'll admit it, there have been a few times that I've made trips to Home Depot to buy a few pieces of lumber to repair a few things at home and instead of measuring, I just bought the "two by fours".

Of course, when I got them outside to my car and realized they wouldn't quite fit I found myself trying every angle to get them in the car to "safely" transport them home. Yes, I've had them hanging out the back of my SUV being held in place with twine. Yes, I've had things wedged out the front passenger side windows before too, but I have never tried to use a pick-up truck the way it was used last week according to the New York State Police.

Massively Overloaded Truck Stopped on New York Road

On Monday, July 22, 2024, the New York State Police (NYSP) at Troop F and its Commercial Vehicle Unit (CVU) stopped the truck pictured above due to suspicion of exceeding the allowed tire weight rating in Suffern, New York.

According to the NYSP Facebook page, this specific truck is rated to safely hold 7,050 lbs and by the naked eye it appeared to exceed that, so members of the CVU proceeded to weigh it. Once they put it on the scale and weighed it, it came in at a whopping 11,650 lbs. That's 4,600lbs over the allowed weight!

The NYSP didn't say if any tickets were issued to the driver or the company that owns the truck but the truck was placed "out of service" for exceeding the allowable tire weight rating.
