
11-Year-Old Fatally Shot While Playing With Gun in Newburgh
An 11-year-old child has died after suffering a gunshot wound in Newburgh, NY.
According to the City of Newburgh Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence to investigate a reported shooting incident on Thursday morning, leading to a tragic discovery.
Child Dies From Gunshot in Newburgh, NY
Police said that at approximately 8:17 a.m. on Thursday, October 9th, 202,5, officers responded to a shooting incident inside a home at 184 North Miller Street.
Upon arrival, officers located a single victim inside the home, who they said was deceased from a gunshot wound. Police identified the victim as an 11-year-old juvenile and said that no further information about the victim or what happened inside the residence would be released at this time.

Shortly after the incident the City of Newburgh Police Department (NPD) confirmed that a firearm was recovered, at the scene and three juveniles of interest were identified and quickly located by police.
12 hours later NPD announced they had arrested a 13-year-old male not related to the victim and charged him with murder in the 2nd degree, a class A felony.
Newburgh Schools Placed in Lockout
Following the incident, all schools in the Newburgh Enlarged City School District were placed in a lockout as a precaution, preventing anyone from leaving or entering any of the city's school buildings.

The district explained a secure lockout, saying, "A secure lockout protocol is used to secure buildings and grounds during incidents that may pose an imminent concern outside the school."
The district also said it was working closely with local law enforcement while they investigated what happened. The district also said, "The Critical Incident Management (CISM) team is meeting and will be providing support as needed."
All after-school activities in the district were cancelled.
