Hudson Valley Principal Named NYS Principal of the Year

A Hudson Valley principal has been selected as the 2025 New York State Elementary School Principal of the Year.

The Hudson Valley is a region in New York that is blessed when it comes to the number of dedicated men and women who have chosen to become educators. Thankfully, we have some of the best teachers and administrators helping to shape the minds of our kids, but unfortunately, some of these folks go underappreciated.

That's why when we hear that a principal from a Hudson Valley school was selected as the 2025 New York State Elementary School Principal of the Year, we do what we can to spread the news.

New York State Principal of the Year

Dr. Matthew Wentworth, the principal at Goshen Intermediate School, has been named the 2025 New York State Elementary School Principal of the Year by the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), according to the Goshen Central School District.

The yearly award is given to a member of each organization who has five years of experience as a principal, meets the academic and social needs of all students & parents, and "evidence of outstanding contributions to the community and to the education profession."

Dr. Wentworth was informed of the honor at a recent Board of Education meeting and said,

"While I’m the one standing here tonight, this recognition definitely truly belongs to the outstanding faculty and staff that we have at Goshen Intermediate School. It’s their hard work, dedication, and genuine care for the students that makes G.I.S. such a special place."

 

Award Celebration

Dr. Wentworth will be recognized on May 2, 2025, at the SAANYS Awards Dinner in Albany, NY, and again by the New York State Board of Regents in October. In the fall, Dr. Wentworth and the other principals being recognized will all visit the White House for the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) National Celebration.
