Another Upstate New York CVS Will be Closing Soon

This will be the third CVS location to close in upstate New York since 2023.

Back in 2021 the pharmacy giant CVS announced that they were planning to close numerous locations across the country to help the company become more sustainable and boost its struggling profits. At the time of the announcement, the plan was to close about 10% of its U.S. locations, around 900 stores, between 2022 and 2024 leaving many wondering which locations would be closing.

CVS Closing Upstate New York Location

The CVS pharmacy located in the Historic Frear Building at 49 4th Street in Troy, New York will be closing its doors according to WTEN. CVS Pharmacy spokesperson Amy Thibault has confirmed that the store's last day in business will be on Wednesday, June 26th. Thibault said,

"Maintaining access to pharmacy services in the communities we serve is an important factor we consider when making store closure decisions. Other factors include local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density, and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community.”

 

All customers who currently have prescriptions at the Troy CVS will have them transferred to the CVS located at 461 2nd Avenue in Lansingburgh, NY. Customers also have the option of having their prescriptions filled at another CVS or another pharmacy of their choice, said Thibault.

The closure of this CVS will be the third CVS location to close in the Capital District area since 2023 joining stores that used to be located at 153 Central Avenue and 1026 Madison Avenue in Albany, New York.

CVS Downsizing at Target Stores

Back at the beginning of 2024, we told you that CVS was preparing to close numerous pharmacy locations inside select Target stores across the country. At the time CVS had approximately 1,800 locations inside of Target’s 1,956 stores in the U.S. and were expecting many of them to begin closing as early as February and were hoping to have all affected locations closed before the start of summer. It's unclear if those closures have been completed or not.
