After much debate, a BIG ride is coming to the Great Escape in Lake George.

If you make plans each summer to take a trip up to Lake George with the family and haven't been to the Great Escape in a while, this summer you might want to check it out because it sounds like a new ride is coming.

According to a report from back in October of 2019 in the Post Star, the amusement park the Great Escape was looking to get a new ride approved for their site in Queensbury, New York and that approval was being held up due to concerns from area residents.

Some residents said that the new 165 foot tall ride called the "Adirondack Outlaw" would break height rules that were put into effect back in 2001 and if put up in the proposed location within the park, would be visible from the area of Glen Lake. Seeing any ride from the Glen Lake area was something that was addressed back in 2001 and it was agreed to back then that no rides would be visible, which is why residents are upset.

One resident said that “I am opposed to anything that can be seen on Glen Lake, I want to go out on my boat and not see something flying around every four minutes.” Great Escape's lawyer, Charles Dumas said that “The view of the ride would be minimal, not substantial, not material, and of limited duration”.

After a few months of trying out different solutions to the problem, the Great Escape agreed to move the ride to a location where it can’t be seen on Glen Lake. With the move, the town Planning Board approved the plan last Tuesday night, according to the Post Star.

No word on when the "Adirondack Outlaw" will be open at the Great Escape but it will be located in the park at the edge of Ghost Town, between the Steamin’ Demon and the Condor rides.
