Kingston's Planning Board has approved plans for a new drive-thru coffee location within the city.

One thing I think most of us can agree on is that there's nothing better than a good cup of coffee, right? There's a reason why many Hudson Valley towns have numerous options when it comes to coffee and thanks to the city Planning Board, Kingston, New York will soon have a drive-thru location that has many area residents excited.

The city of Kingston Planning Board voted 4 to 1 in favor of approving plans for a proposed Autonomous Coffee location at 380 Foxhall Avenue on Monday, which now clears the way for the coffee shop to move forward and open soon according to the Daily Freeman. The Planning Board granted shop owners a one-year special use permit to operate the shop which will be housed in a former auto repair shop.

With the approval shop owners brothers Ashton and Preston Zubal are hoping to open the shop within the next three to six months and are planning to offer a limited menu that will focus on espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, and cold brews that will all be served quickly and consistently. This location will be a drive-thru and offer counter service inside but will offer no seating for customers.

Will Traffic be an Issue?

That was the big question many wondered when plans were first submitted but according to owners they are planning to follow a few steps to ensure that wait times won't be long for customers, which would result in traffic backups onto Foxhall Ave. They are planning to use high-tech coffee machines that will automatically prepare coffee orders at the push of a few buttons, they will have a limited menu, won't accept cash, and will use touchscreen menu boards for those in the drive-thru to make their selections.

Owners also said that the shop could only affect traffic in the morning as they plan to close each day by 3 p.m. and during busy times they would have staff outside directing cars to park out front and then staff members could bringing their coffee out to them.

In addition to the Foxhall Ave. location, Autonomous Coffee can be found at local farmers markets and the My Town Market in Rosendale, NY.
