Upstate New York Bank Reports Banking Issues Affecting Customers
Customers of a popular Upstate New York-based bank are finally getting some answers after a frustrating couple of days dealing with account issues that had many people doing a double-take.
Banking Issues at NBT Bank
NBT Bank has confirmed it has been working to fix a widespread problem involving duplicate transactions, which first started raising concerns earlier this week.
The issue impacted customers in multiple areas, including right here in the Hudson Valley, where NBT has branches in New Paltz, Poughkeepsie, Fishkill, and Newburgh, NY.
For a lot of customers, the problem was hard to miss. Transactions were showing up more than once, making account balances appear either much higher than expected or, worse, overdrawn.
And as you can imagine, seeing your account suddenly dip into the negative, even if it’s just a glitch, is enough to get anyone’s attention in a hurry.
Problem Fixed?
NBT initially acknowledged the issue on Tuesday, saying they were actively investigating. Now, heading into day two, the bank says it has identified and resolved what it’s calling the “underlying processing issue” behind the duplicate charges.

In a statement shared by WRGB, a spokesperson for the bank said:
“We have resolved the underlying processing issue that caused duplicate transactions to appear on some accounts. While additional system work is continuing, customers can access their funds using debit cards, ATM cards, and by visiting NBT Bank branches.”
The bank also noted that its digital banking systems are currently experiencing high traffic and ongoing maintenance, which could affect access for some customers.
Still Having Trouble With Your Account?
They’re encouraging anyone still having trouble to contact their local branch or stop by an NBT ATM to check account balances.
“We understand this situation has raised concerns, and we appreciate your understanding as we work to fully restore all services,” the spokesperson added.
NBT operates approximately 140 locations across New York, along with branches in six other states, including Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
