It is every parent and caregiver's worst nightmare. A missing child can strike fear and panic into just about anyone; fortunately, the parents of a girl who was missing in Westchester on Monday notified the police right away.

Police Called To Somers, New York, Tractor Supply to Locate Missing Child

Most parents have experienced at least once that moment when their child is not in sight. One minute they were right there, then the next they were gone. It is a helpless feeling and also terrifying as you frantically try to locate them.

In the same vein, children who get separated from their parents at a store also have a moment of panic. I clearly remember when I was small, I deliberately went down a different aisle in a store than my mom and was instantly lost.

I presumed that we would meet up at the top of the aisle, but when she wasn't there or in the aisle she had been traveling, I had a brief moment of panic. I didn't know that she had turned, saw I wasn't there, so she backtracked. It took us about two minutes to find each other, and that had to be one of the longest two minutes of my life.

Child Missing From a Westchester County Tractor Supply

The story isn't clear about how the little girl, whom the Westchester County Police Department found in a Tractor Supply store, got separated from her parents, but you can see she was very scared when the police dog found her.

What we do know is that on Monday morning, the Westchester County Police K9 joined other agencies to search for a lost 2-year-old who was reported missing from a Tractor Supply in Somers, New York.

Westchester Police K9 Finds Missing Girl at Tractor Supply

The search was being conducted in the area of the store when Westchester Police K9 handlers Paul Osterman and his partner, Essex, joined the search. They started outside the store until Essex surprisingly re-entered the store and proceeded down an aisle to discover the small girl, scared out of sight between two store displays.

Essex may have startled the little girl when they came eye to eye; you can see her reaction in the video. Either way, this story had a happy ending thanks to Essex and his trained nose.
