Have you noticed that something beautiful has recently returned to the Mid-Hudson Bridge?

Back at the beginning of 2024 drivers and residents from the Hudson Valley noticed that something had disappeared from the night sky along the mid-Hudson bridge and many were wondering what happened.

Colored Lights Disappear from Mid-Hudson Bridge

When the lights went out around January 3rd, 2024, we reached out to the New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA) to ask what happened and they told us

"There is an issue with some of the necklace lights on the bridge. We started replacing fixtures last year on the light system, which was originally installed in 2001. However, some of these new lights were not functioning as intended.”

The malfunctioning lights led the NYSBA to turn them off to have them repaired. At the time it was unclear when the lights would be turned back on but they did say they were working with their contractor to “implement solutions so that all of the lights can function properly and illuminate the bridge."

At the time we did ask that when they were ready to flip the switch to turn the lights back on, could we be a part of it and were told “That would be fun!” So, we waited and waited for them to let us know when the lights would be turned back on and didn’t hear back. To my surprise as I drove across the bridge on Tuesday night the colored lights were back on!

Mid-Hudson Bridge Lights Back on

Yes, the multicolored lights are back on and according to the NYSBA Facebook page, they did a relighting ceremony back on the 4th of July with a different Hudson Valley radio station. BOO!! That might be the reason many are unaware the lights have been turned back on!!!! (sorry I’m hurt…. LOL!)

We did reach out to the NYSBA for a comment through Facebook but haven’t heard back. When we do will update this article.
