Memorial for Maj James Brophy to be Held Friday
When you crossed the Mid-Hudson Bridge today you may have noticed that there was a notice to expect delays Friday morning (Jan 11, 2019) between 10 am and 12 noon. I have since found out by placing a call to the County Executive's office that the reason for the delays tomorrow are both somber and significant.
Tomorrow morning the public is welcome to pay their last respects to a fallen Marine. Maj. James Brophy who was killed last month when a KC-130 refueling plane and a F/A-18 fighter plane collided off the coast of Japan will be memorialized tomorrow morning. The service honoring Maj. Brophy a resident of Staatsburg, will be held at the Majed J. Nesheiwat Convention Center (formerly known as the Mid-Hudson Civic Center). The service is from 11 am to 12 pm. Obviously, delays should be expected in the area of the Mid-Hudson Bridge, Route 9, Market Street and the Arterial before, after and during that time.
At the conclusion of the service a procession will take place to the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. It is expected to leave the Convention Center head behind the building on the West bound Arterial where it will then turn back up town before making a right down Academy Street and continue on to the Cemetery. The public is welcome and encouraged to stand along the route to honor Maj James Brophy for his service and sacrifice while serving our country.
If you are traveling to Poughkeepsie tomorrow please be aware that this may cause delays and your patience is greatly appreciated.
