A man who was wanted on two warrants for attempted murder in Puerto Rico was found and arrested in Newburgh.

Tuesday, members of the United States Marshal Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 30-year-old Roger D. Gonzalez-Martinez. He was located at an address on Carson Avenue in the City of Newburgh.

Authorities in New York were notified by the U.S. Marshal Service in the District of Puerto Rico that Gonzalez-Martinez may be residing in the City of Newburgh. His warrants stemmed from a 2014 incident in which he allegedly fired a gun at two police officers in Puerto Rico.

“The swift capture of this most dangerous fugitive, wanted for his alleged attempt at shooting two police officers in Puerto Rico, was the direct result of the collective efforts of the District of Puerto Rico, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service’s New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force,” United States Marshal for the Southern District of New York Michael Greco said in a statement. “This individual’s attempt on the lives of these officers required meticulous, collaborative and efficient investigations from all agencies in involved. Getting him off the streets of Orange County has helped make them safer.”

After being arrested without incident, Gonzalez-Martinez was transported to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. He was arraigned at the City of Middletown Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail pending further extradition proceedings.

The United States Marshal Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force is comprised of members from the U.S Marshal Service, The Orange County Sheriff’s Office, The New York State Police and the City of Yonkers Police Department.
