A successful rescue on the Hudson River.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, two Highland residents were rescued from the Hudson River on Sunday after the boat they were in capsized on the Hudson.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office told the Journal that they were contacted by the United States Coast Guard around 3:50 p.m. with a distress call of an overturned sailboat and that two people were reported to have been in the boat, which overturned just north of the Hyde Park Marina.

After the call was made, a retired police officer and member of the Hyde Park Marina responded to the scene on a personal boat and they were able to rescue a 34 year old women from the river.

Another boater on the Hudson was able to get the other boater, a 36 year old man out of the river.

According to Police, after the pair were rescued, their investigation found that the pair were sailing on a sailing on the river in a 14 foot, homemade trimaran sailboat.

Neither of the boaters sustained any injuries.
