Lights, Camera, Popcorn for Christmas
Just because it is a Disney film doesn't mean it is a children's film, one critic report about "Into the Woods". He did say it is a musical delight because the actors can actually sing. However, the adult themes and dark imagery may make it a bit too grown up for little ones. I think what he was trying to say is it is about fairy tales but it is for the big kids. So there is my disclaimer. Now this is the part where I say I am a giant kid I can't wait to see this film. And yes, I am sure there will be tweens in the theater.
I never saw Into the Woods the musical in the 80's on Broadway. Back then I rarely got the chance to get down to New York. I know that NYC cast was wonderful but I think the film cast is just as amazing. I love Johnny Depp and I am sure he makes a great wolf. Meryl Streep as the witch sings her heart out and from the trailer looks scarey enough for me. I think Bernadette Peters would be proud, she play Meryl's character on Broadway.
So if you are a fan of fairy tales plan to see "Into the Woods on Christmas day or soon there after, you never know it just might get the theme from Frozen out of your head. Plus, this time of year is a perfect time to think about things we "wish for" and their true meaning.
