Lexie Hayden's new music video is a sultry twist on a classic country drinking song. The rising country singer-songwriter finds herself alone and lamenting lost love in her visually impressive new video for "Tequila for Two."

Hayden delivers a smoky, pained vocal performance over a backing track of loping drums, interlocking acoustic and electric guitars and keys. The band lays back in the verses, keeping the focus on her narrative as she sings about "killing time 'til last call," but the music rises to carry her voice into a sweeping chorus that's instantly memorable.

"Chasing that high that I'd get / When I used to kiss the lime off your lips / Every round, every sip / Gets me drowning in you / And this cold Cuervo Blue / Drunk again at a table for one / Drinking tequila for two," she sings, her restrained, yet confident vocal performance perfectly matched to the material.

Hayden's eye-catching new video for "Tequila for Two" serves as an exclusive first listen to the track, debuting with Taste of Country today. The video features Tanya Tucker’s Cosa Salvaje Tequila.

"I wrote this song with my producer, Derek George and Monty Criswell," the singer-songwriter tells us. "The song is super fun and sexy, showing off a different side to my music! It has a live, full band feel to it. I write a lot of emotional songs, so this one I'm super excited about because I think it's going to make people want to dance."

Hayden is one of eight up-and-coming artists taking part in MTV's new music competition series, Becoming a Popstar, in which judges Joe Jonas, Becky G and Sean Bankhead judge artists who were all initially discovered on TikTok. Viewers will decide who has a shot at becoming a pop sensation, with help from MTV, TikTok and Pepsi.

The series premiered on March 24, and Hayden is the only country artist competing on the program, which airs each Thursday evening at 9PM CT. Hayden is also a writer on Priscilla Block’s fast-rising new single, “My Bar.”
