Justin Timberlake headlined the first night of the 2017 Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival on Saturday night (Sept. 23), and he, of course, brought a couple of special guests with him. During his show, Timberlake invited Chris and Morgane Stapleton out to sing three songs: "Tennessee Whiskey," "Fire Away" and "Sometimes I Cry."

"I felt like I had to do something special ... so I brought some friends with me ...," Timberlake told the crowd gathered in Franklin, Tenn., for Pilgrimage 2017. " This man and this woman that I'm about to bring out have inspired me so much since I've met them, not only as one f--king incredible artist but as a very good man and a hell of a woman."

Timberlake and the Stapletons first treated the Pilgrimage crowd to "Tennessee Whiskey" -- readers can press play above to watch their performance -- one of the songs that they performed together during their career-making set at the 2015 CMA Awards. That night, they paired the song with Timberlake's "Drink You Away" and brought down the house, effectively making Stapleton's the name every country fan wanted to know.

"Thank you for letting us butt in on the show here," Chris Stapleton told the crowd in between songs, to which Timberlake replied, "I think we should just make a deal: Either time one of us plays Tennessee, the other one's there." The crowd, of course, was all for that idea.

The Stapletons and Timberlake then performed "Fire Away," with Timberlake taking lead vocals on the second verse. Before the three sang the song, Timberlake told festivalgoers that he'd requested that, if Stapleton were to join him during his set, he'd have to play the song.

"When this song first came, out, I fangirled," Timberlake admitted, "and I wish I would have written it, it's that good."

Timberlake and the Stapleton's final collaboration of the night was on "Sometimes I Cry." Chris Stapleton mostly had the proverbial spotlight to himself for that song, though Timberlake did chime in on a few lines and play keys. Readers can watch their performance of that song above.

Timberlake owns a home in nearby Leiper's Fork, Tenn., and became a partner in and co-producer of the Pilgrimage Festival in 2016. His headlining set during the 2017 event helped double attendance at this year's festival vs. last year's, the Tennessean reports.
