Famous Food Location Closed Again in Port Ewen, New York
Soft Serve season officially got underway this weekend with the exception of a few locations. Some places weren't ready to open just yet even though the weather was tempting ice cream lovers all over the Hudson Valley.
One thing that did transpire over the weekend was the confirmation that the Hudson Valley will have one less soft-serve ice cream spot for the 2024 season. Not only are the folks behind the scenes sad about it but the customers have also expressed their unhappiness.
The Jolly Cow Closes Port Ewen Location
The Jolly Cow opened for business this past Saturday and I like many others ran up to get the first taste of the season. The original store is in Lake Katrine, just north of Kingston near Adams Fairacre Farms on Ulster Avenue.

When I went on Sunday night the parking lot was packed, the ice cream was amazing and the familiar cow was the center of many photos. Sadly though for the fans of the Jolly Cow in Port Ewen, the story is over.
It was announced this past weekend that the Jolly Cow will not re-open in the old Rainbow Drive-In.
Jolly Cow is Sad Not to Open Port Ewen
In a heartfelt post to the community, the Jolly Cow shared the news that they could not open the Port Ewen location due to unforeseen circumstances.
I truly wanted to follow through with my vision of serving the community of Port Ewen for many years to come. Unfortunately, things did not work out as planned due to unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances. (The Jolly Cow via Facebook)
They also shared that they agreed with many of the comments left on the post. They stated that the Port Ewen location needed an additional food option beyond ice cream.
Opportunity to Open a Family Food Spot in Port Ewen, New York
The old Rainbow Drive-In would make the perfect spot for another family-style food spot. Many pieces of the equipment along with decor and seats are still in the build. It almost appeared as if it might open at any minute.
I did not see a for-sale sign when I stopped to grab a photo. I also didn't see the business listed on a real estate site so maybe the place has a new owner already. Rumor is that it does so hopefully Port Ewen will get a new food and soft-serve spot before summer 2024 is over.
