Upstate Pups of NY: A New Hudson Valley Dog Resuce

Upstate Pups of NY is a fairly new dog rescue here in the Hudson Valley. Ryan and his family started Upstate Pups of NY after their last foster, Sophia, came to them from another agency a few days before crossing over the rainbow bridge.

On the Upstate Pups website they write:

Sophia's experience solidified it for us. We decided to start our own rescue, Upstate Pups. Our mission is to rescue pups from NYC & Long Island shelters for fostering and adoption in the Hudson Valley Region.

They add "We want to give NYC pups a new leash on life...the #UpstatePupsLife!"

Ryan has fostered dozens of dogs from various rescues and in turn has learned hot to "ensure the best experience" for the pups on their journey to their forever home.

Meet Max From Upstate Pups of NY

The Upstate Pups of NY rescue has been in service since the summer of 2024. One of their first fosters, Max, is still with them looking for his forever home.

Max is a 4 year old terrier mix with a wiry coat and an adorable underbite. I had the opportunity to meet Max recently and he was so friendly and ready to play. He showed off all of his tricks and shared that he LOVES treats (usually the soft ones, but he won't turn his snout from the harder treats, he loves them all!).

Ryan shares that Max was rescued from New York City and while they don't know much about his history they do believe he suffered from some abuse.

Even with his tough past, Max's playful spirit shines through. He loves chasing leaves, exploring the outdoors and car rides, but he's also ready to cuddle at the drop of a hat.

He knows all of his commands like sit and paw and he even dances! If Dancing with the Dogs was a reality show, Max would be the star!

Want to Adopt Max from Upstate Pups of NY?

According to Ryan, Max likes to be "king of the castle" that's why he would probably do better in a home without other animals.

If you're looking for a social, affectionate and loyal companion Max is the pup for you!

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
