Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary Closing in 2025
In February of 2025, the Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary in Kerhonkson, New York, made the announcement that no rescue wants to make.
They would have to close their doors within the next 6 months.
There were several factors that went into the difficult decision, at the time Wayward Ranch wrote in a statement "While we had high hopes for Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary to continue on for many years as a permanent resource to help animals in need within our community, sadly it was not meant to be."

Mission Apollo: Kerhonkson Rescue Looking For a Forever Home For 1 Last Dog
As the 1st of May rolled around, Wayward Ranch reminded their followers that they would be closing within the next 2 months.
With such a short amount of time left, they have one mission. To find the last dog at the rescue a forever home.
They're calling it #MissionApollo. Wayward explains that Apollo has been looking for a family since February 2023. Over the last 2 years he has "stayed hopeful, and loved deeply every single day" according to the rescue.
Wayward adds: "Now, it's our turn to fight for him."
Here's how Mission Apollo works as told by Wayward Ranch
When you share Apollo’s story, tag a friend, leave a kind comment, even just liking his posts —you are part of helping more people learn he exists and one day soon the right family will finally see him and take him home, maybe thanks to you!
Not only are you helping a dog "You are planting hope, building a future, and helping write Apollo’s happily ever after."
How to Adopt Apollo at Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary
Since 2016, when Wayward Ranch first opened, the Ulster County based rescue has help 137 dogs find their forever homes.
Let's make that number 138.
Wayward will be posting Apollo every single day in the month of May. They are asking for Mission Apollo recruits to "Share. Tag. Comment. Boost. Be part of the team that changes everything for him."
Apollo is a 4-6 year old pit bull/mastiff mix. He's neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. He would do best in a home without young kids or cats. Apollo is great with other dogs after a few, slow introductions.
If you're interested in meeting Apollo and becoming his forever family, fill out an application and reach out to Wayward Ranch at WaywardRanch.org.
