Newburgh NY’s New ‘Hidden’ Restaurant is Now Officially Open
There's an exciting new restaurant in Newburgh, NY... and it's finally fully open to the public.
Newburgh, NY's newest addition is a delicious and creative destination that offers a unique take on Spanish tapas and other traditional Spanish foods like paella, as well as a sophisticated cocktail menu (their Manhattan Perfecto is fantastic) and wine list. While their soft opening last month meant that only diners "in the know" could find and enjoy the restaurant, the exciting new business is now celebrating their grand opening.
Bar Brava Is the Newest Restaurant to Open in Newburgh, NY
The restaurant, Bar Brava, wasn't exactly a secret before, but their original lack of website, the absence of an address on their Instagram account, and their windows with pulled curtains and a front door with frosted glass (above) gave it a "hiding in plain sight" feel. Now, the business, located at 96 Broadway in Newburgh, NY, is ready for the public.

If their address sound familiar, it's because the restaurant has some big shoes to fill. Bar Brava is taking over the location of the late Mama Roux - a beloved business famous for their Sunday Drag Brunch. Bar Brava is different in several ways, and when you visit, there are a few tips to keep in mind.
The Menu at Bar Brava in Newburgh, NY
Tapas are typically small plates of food meant to be enjoyed by a group of people, and Bar Brava has organized their menu into several sections. "Pintxos" are one (or two) bite snacks served individually. The Tortilla de Patata, a delicious mini-omelet, was our favorite and the fried eggplant (above) was delicious as well. Their "Tapas" section should be read more as "shareable plates", with dishes like their Ensalada Verde (green salad) and Bacalao a la Llauna (pan roasted cod) served as one medium-sized dish instead of several individual servings (below). Lastly their "Platos" (entrees) and paella are served in larger portions.
While the decor was much more restrained than the opulently-designed Mama Roux, the atmosphere was lovely, and the live DJ helped set a great mood for a romantic Friday date night. While Bar Brava has been serving food and drinks for several weeks, their official grand opening is Thursday, December 14th at 6pm, where they promise that "delicious food, live jazz at 7pm and champagne await!"
