It's official. Newburgh Armory Unity Center is now officially home to a 'Magic Space' and LEGO themed classroom to 'celebrate the building bricks of knowledge' in the community.
Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Magic Space in Newburgh, Saturday February 24th
In collaboration with LEGOLAND New York Resort and Merlin's Magic Space, a new LEGO themed classroom designed specifically for children in the community was officially launched on Saturday, February 24th.
The Magic Space is the 12th of its kind developed by Merlin's Magic Wand Foundation, but the first in our local area.
The space itself, which was designed to 'promote creativity and help build a brighter future' for community children hosted the first of many sessions following the ribbon cutting.
Stephanie Johnson, Divisional Director at LEGOLAND New York and Merlin’s Magic Wand Foundation Board Member shared the following regarding the new classroom, and what it will bring to Newburgh:
It’s an honor to support the vital work done at Newburgh Armory Unity Center and bring a space dedicated to challenging students to learn the basic principles of engineering, math and architecture while embarking on a fun-filled journey through the transformative power of LEGO bricks.
This new addition to the community at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center is a collaboration between Merlin's Magic Wand and LEGOLAND, and you can learn more about each, and the drive behind it, here.
To kick things up another notch, builders also made an incredible replica of the Armory out of LEGO bricks:

What Exactly Is A Magic Space?
A classroom where creativity awaits, the new Magic Space at the Armory will offer interactive learning, fostering knowledge and creativity. With LEGO theming that is designed to 'encourage children to learn, expand their curiosity and embrace play,' the classroom at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center will offer four classes each Saturday with an average of 20 students per class, for a total of 80 students weekly through May. The classroom itself will follow a LEGO themed curriculum with the materials furnished by Merlin's Magic Wand, and will feature LEGO education sets and plenty of bricks for building.
This first class of students will be able to celebrate the culmination of their Magic Space experience with what's referred to as a 'Magical Day Out' at LEGOLAND New York with their parents, where they will be granted complimentary one-day tickets from the Merlin's Magic Wand Foundation.
One parent at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, Dani Martinez, who had a child that was part of the inaugural class on Saturday following the grand opening, can't wait to see the positivity thins brings to the community.
As a parent, the new LEGO classroom is a dream come true for my child and a gateway to imagination, boundless creativity and learning – all through piecing together LEGO bricks!
