[UPDATED 3:10 P.M. ON TUESDAY, MARCH 5TH. KEEP READING FOR META OUTAGE AND SUPER TUESDAY COVERAGE]

I was just battling with my laptop and phone for 30 minutes this morning because it was telling me that my Facebook session had "timed out." I had been going back and forth trying to update my password and get through all authentication steps, to no avail. It was so aggravating because I needed to get on for work to schedule some posts for our radio station pages. I'm over here fearing that I got hacked or something. After 30 minutes of headache, I get a message saying that Facebook is going through an outage.

Facebook's Outage Effects Users Across the Globe

Earlier this morning, Meta’s social media platforms were not working, with both Instagram and Facebook pulling up “failure to load” error pages. DownDetector reported over 44,000 outages at 10:13 a.m. Apps also appear to be affected. The outage seemed to be occurring worldwide. Facebook's last big outage was October 4, 2021 when Meta and its subsidiaries, including Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, disappeared from the internet and remained unavailable for roughly six hours. Today's outage has made it to the top of the headlines, being the top trending topic on X currently.

As of updating this article around 12 PM, Facebook is back up and running for some users. If you have 2 factor authentication, your code may take an extra minute to send to your phone or email. Instagram seems to still be experiencing issues. Personally, I have been unable to log back in, while I know of some users who have. Meta's X account issued this statement about the outage at 12:35 PM:

Super Outage on Super Tuesday

Facebook's latest outage comes at a bad time, with today being Super Tuesday with many American turning to social media to stay up to date with the primary elections.Super Tuesday is the United States presidential primary election day in February or March when the greatest number of U.S. states hold primary elections and caucuses. In order to win the nomination for the Republican Party, candidates need 1,215 delegates. As for the Democratic Party, Joe Biden has 206 delegates. To win the nomination for the Democratic Party, candidates need 1,968 delegates.
