There's nothing like a photograph from hundreds of miles above the earth's surface to give us perspective on just how small we really are. Luckily, NASA has shared these amazing snapshots with the world.

Gateway to Astronaut Photography of Earth is a fascinating collaboration between the International Space Station (ISS) and the Earth Science & Remote Sensing Unit. While NASA has fancier and more scientific reasons for the photos, us civilians are lucky enough to have access to the images as well. So what does the Hudson Valley look like from space?

Photos of the Hudson Valley, NY from the International Space Station

In this stunning nighttime image (above), a NASA astronaut captured what they quite simply called "New York Metropolitan Area at Night". Closer inspection, however, reveals not only neighboring states like Connecticut and Rhode Island, but Poughkeepsie, NY as well (below). And that's not all...

Photos of Newburgh, NY from Space

While nighttime photos may have a bit more interest, daytime photos of the Hudson Valley can show exactly what we look like to astronauts orbiting high above in the International Space Station. They're also more specific. In 2013, one photo even captured what the Hudson River looked like in Newburgh, NY (below).

Where to Find NASA's Astronaut Photographs

While plenty of satellite images are available from websites like Google, there's something special in the knowledge that these shots were literally taken by astronauts. The good news is that all of these photographs (and more) are all available to the public. From Kingston, NY to Paris France, take a global tour through the lens of an astronaut at eol.jsc.nasa.gov.
