A popular Catskill location has a haunted past. Well, at least according to one website.

If you've ever been up to Hunter Mountain you've probably driven on Route 23A. It's a winding road that gives you some phenomenal views of the Catskills and Hudson Valley.

The website Try to Scare Me has apparently dug up local lore about Route 23A. According to the site back in 2006, the New York State Department of Transportation closed a portion of 23A down due to landslides.

A few months following the closure a couple had taken a ride on 23A for a quick romantic getaway. After a pit stop to check out the views the couple fell victim to a landslide. The woman was allegedly in a coma, while sadly the man passed away.

Try to Scare Me says that "locals" still see the young man from time to time. His ghost will show up "late at night to drivers who finished a long day of skiing." Others however, say the man will appear only to other couples to "foreboding the death of one of them."

Is the haunting of route 23A real? Who knows. What we do know is locals of the Tannerville area found the website and put in their two cents. Like Kara who left the following comment:

My family was one of the families that lived in Tannersville as early as the 1800’s . This is the first time hearing this story!!! Like we need more people holding up traffic looking for ghosts!!!
