Are Drivers that Drive Around Like This Breaking the Law in New York?
When you get behind the wheel of your car or truck there are hundreds of reasons the police could pull you over, but is this one of them?
Did anyone else grow up with parents that liked to tell little lies?
I know that I did!!! My parents used common lies like, "if you eat watermelon seeds you will grow a watermelon in your belly!" Or "if you sit too close to the TV you will go cross-eyed." There is one thing that they used to say all the time when we were in the car that I think some people still think is true today.
Driving With the Interior Light on is Illegal in New York?
Like most kids, anytime we would all be in the car together there would be one of us that would always have to turn on the dome light in the car for some reason. Most times it was to find something but every time that light went on we would hear my mom or dad say the same thing, "Turn that off!!! I can get pulled over and get a ticket if you keep it on!" I don't know why but for some reason after hearing them say it so many times, it stuck with me for years. Is it true?
Can You Get a Ticket for Driving With the Dome Light on?
Doing my best not to give spread false information, I've looked everywhere and from what I can tell, NO you can NOT get a ticket in New York if you drive with the interior light on. Looking at a full list of New York Traffic laws I don't see anything saying you will get a ticket if you drive with the interior light on. You will get a ticket if your license plate lights don't work but nothing on the dome light.
Your Parents Were Lying
That may be true, but I think all of us parents should do what we can to keep the myth alive because there is nothing more annoying than trying to drive with that light on in the car! Right?
