Is a slab of stone located in Saratoga Springs a portal to another world? That might be a stretch, but many believe some of the lore behind The Devils Chair. Ever heard of it?

What is The Devil's Chair?

The Devils Chair is a slab of stone, situated in the northeast corner of Congress Park in Saratoga Springs, New York.

I recently came across an excerpt from author and podcaster John Bulmer explaining the creepy lore behind the random slab. Bulmer writes "Most people pass it without a second glance. It blends into the park like any other piece of stone, weathered and ordinary."

While it may just look like a random piece of stone, many believe the chair possess more that meets the eye.

Bulmer writes that some believe the stone chair was once part of a church, others believe it "marked a place of protest."

The story goes like this: a small Episcopal congregation resisted the rise of gambling when the Canfield Casino opened. The church folded, unwilling to share sacred ground with what many viewed as vice.

The building is said to have later vanished with one stone remaining without explanation.

Is the Devils Chair in Saratoga Springs Haunted?

So, what's the haunted history behind the chair that piques the interest of so many?

Bulmer states "Some say it is cursed. Others call it a portal. The story is simple. Sit on the chair long enough, and you will be transported to another time."

Digging deeper into the alleged haunting, when one is to sit on the chair it will transport the person back in time to the 20th century. According to one story, for anything to happen it must be a girl that sits on the chair and either at 12 am or 3 am.

Do you believe the haunting of The Devil's Chair? Would you be brave enough to sit on it?
