A teen from the Hudson Valley was called up to join the United States national soccer team.

Tyler Adams of Wappinger Falls is among five young uncapped players who were called up to join the U.S. national soccer team when the team faces Portugal in a friendly on Nov. 14.

Interim manager Dave Sarachan announced the youth influx following the team’s dreadful loss in Trinidad.

Adams, 18, was born and raised in Wappinger Falls. He joined the New York Red Bulls Academy in 2011.

Despite making the Red Bulls main roster in 2015, Adams continued going to high school at Roy C. Ketcham. Adams commuted about 75 miles from Dutchess County for practice with the Red Bulls in New Jersey.

He graduated from Ketcham in June by taking early morning classes before driving to practice, but missed his graduation ceremony because the Red Bulls had a game that day, reports ESPN.

Yahoo Sports praised the talented Hudson Valley resident's work on the pitch:

On the field, he’s a multi-talented midfielder – so multi-talented that he was excellent for New York down the stretch as a right wing-back in a unique 3-3-3-1 formation. If he’s playing there, he has the athleticism to speed up and down the wing and the technical ability to deliver a killer cross. If he’s playing centrally, he can be playmaker and high-press ringleader all at once. He bites into tackles without hesitation, drawing comparisons to a pitbull, but is remarkably smooth on the ball for his age.

Adams has represented the United States at the under 15, under 17 and under 20 levels.
