Hudson Valley Math Teacher Drove to NYC To Meet Teen, Police Say
An Orange County math teacher is being accused of attempted endangering the welfare of a child.
On July, 27, 2018 state police from troop F (Middletown) became aware of Town of Wallkill resident who had recently traveled to New York City for the purpose of meeting a 15-year old girl.
An investigation revealed that Jonathan Castell, 44 of Wallkill, N.Y. had been communicating with who he thought was a 15-year old girl through social media and texting platforms.
The person he was communicating with was actually part of a network of adult citizens who target child predators.
Castell, who is a Middletown High School mathematics teacher, was arrested on July, 31, 2018 and charged with Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Castell was issued and appearance ticket, and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Wallkill Court this week.
The Orange County District Attorney's Office assited the state police with the case.
