How Will You Begin 2018?
I don't mean to rush you through the holidays, but what are your plans for New Year's Day? Will you be sleeping off New Year's Eve, making your list of resolutions, or is that the day you plan to take down all of your Christmas decorations?
While all of those are good ideas, might I suggest an alternative, something that will really help you get 2018 started on the right foot, you might even say the right path. Join other New Yorkers and get outside for the First Day Hike 2018.
The New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation invite you to join them at several parks throughout New York State on what has become an annual event for a lot of families. While start times vary a bit, depending on which state park you head to, plan on anywhere between 9 and 10 am.
Some hikes are for the more experienced hiker, while many others are moderate walks keeping the very young and the elderly in mind. This year, hikes offered include a walking history tour, a snowshoe waterfall hike, pet-friendly treks, and more. You could also go on a bird survey, a full-moon hike, or see some amazing views from a fire tower.
Participating state parks in the Hudson Valley include Sterling Forest State Park, Minnewaska State Park Preserve, Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, and Olana State Park. Get the complete list here. along with any additional details, you may need.
Have a happy and healthy New Year!
