How to Camp For Free This Summer Throughout New York
If your idea of a perfect vacation is packing up your gear, escaping into the woods, and camping for a week, this just might make your summer. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is launching the Campground Ambassador Program for the 2018 camping season.
Campground Ambassadors will help the DEC staff to not only welcome visitors to the campgrounds but also help them learn about hiking, fishing, as well as other outdoor activities. Each Ambassador is asked to serve at least two weeks or up to four weeks, between July 1st and Labor Day.
While these are volunteer positions, participants will, in exchange, have a campsite provided for the duration of their stay. You can also bring up to five people with you. Campsites include locations in the Catskills as well as the Adirondacks.
Some requirements to be an Ambassador include being at least 18 years of age, have your own camping and personal equipment, complete a training program, and more. For full details, click here. Applications must be received by March 30, 2018
