An iconic New York City skyscraper has ruffled some serious feathers.

Football fans were glued to their televisions this past Sunday to see what 2 teams would face off in the Super Bowl on February 12th. Unfortunately, none of the 3 teams representing New York were involved. Not surprising, although some could argue it was the Bill's year.

I digress.

New York vs Philly: The Rivalry Continues

I have had the honor (and pain') of growing up a New York Giants fan. One of the first things I learned is that rivalries run deep. We don't like the Cowboys and the Patriots, but we really, really don't like the Philadelphia Eagles. Can you tell I'm trying to use the word hate because it seems too harsh? I'm trying!

This year stings even more since the Eagles beat up the Giants 38-7 in the NFC East Divisional round.  Needless to say, I think most Giant fans were hoping the San Fransisco 49ers beat the Eagles.

Sadly, as we all know, that did not happen. But then, a NY landmark decided to turn its back on its hometeam in a move no one saw coming.

New York Skyscraper Turns Back on New York Giants

The Empire State Building, an ICONIC NEW YORK SKYSCRAPER, decided to honor the NY Giant's rival after they won the NFC Championship game on Sunday, January 29th, 2023.

Yup, the Empire State Building lit up Green and White for the Eagles.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I know I wasn't the only one who was shocked/offended/mad about this. Twitter exploded last night. Journalist for ESPN Mina Kimes put it perfectly when she responded: "Did yall lose a bet?"

ABC 7 NY has compiled a list of some of the best responses, including one from The New York Giants, who said "I'm just here for the comments."

If you're delusional enough, you can pretend the green and white were to represent the New York Jets, but we all know that's a stretch.

An Empire State Building Prank?

Was it all just a prank? After the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, the Empire State Building tweeted "That hurt us more than it hurt you" and then lit up red for the Chiefs, but shared an old photo.

Twitter users chimed in and stated that they do it every year, which is probably true. The Empire State Building is known to light up for different holidays and events.

Even so, repping for your town's rival is a bad look, right?
