“Major Emergency” Narrowly Avoided at Hudson Valley Gas Station
Usually, we're grateful to our first responders for responding to a catastrophic emergency. This time we have them to thank for avoiding one.
Crisis Averted in the Hudson Valley, NY
The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department took to Facebook yesterday to share how the quick response of their emergency services team may have narrowly averted a much more dire situation at a Mobil gas station in Westchester County, NY.
From their post:
Multiple 911 calls reporting an ice machine on fire adjacent to the Mobil Gas Station on South Riverside Avenue - also immediately next to a storage cabinet for BBQ propane tanks.
Croton-on-Hudson Fire Response
It doesn't take rocket science to put together what could have happened if their response wasn't as quick as it was. I've freaked out seeing someone smoking a cigarette near a gas station, let alone an active fire on gas station property next to propane tanks. The fire department continued:
Units began to arrive just over one minute after dispatch, confirming the active fire. First-arriving Chief Munson used an extinguisher from his Fire SUV to knock down the flames and prevent the spread to the propane tanks upon his arrival
Fire engine 119 was then able to finish extinguishing the fire, turning what could have been a major disaster into an almost-routine drill for the seasoned department. Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department put it best, saying, "another quick response prevents a major emergency".
