The popular video game store GameStop has announced that they are closing numerous locations including many across New York and one in the Hudson Valley.

We are only a few weeks into the new year and we have already learned that some big-name companies have announced that they will be closing locations soon. Macy’s, Kohl's, and Joann Fabrics recently said they are planning to close select locations and now it appears that one of the biggest names in video games is doing the same.

GameStop Closing Stores Across New York

According to the Syracuse website, GameStop has closed or is preparing to close numerous locations nationwide, including many New York locations. The GameStop website has confirmed that three GameStop stores in Central New York have closed including stores in Camillus, NY, Clay, NY, and Oneida, NY.

There are also reports stating that stores in Oswego and Cortland, NY will be closing soon.

GameStop Closing More Stores in Upstate New York

The central New York locations seem to be just the beginning as the Times Union is reporting that the GameStop on Delaware Avenue in Delmar, NY along with the store at The Shoppes at Greenbush Commons in Rensselaer, NY have closed. They also confirmed that other stores in Latham and Troy, NY are expected to close in the coming weeks but what about stores in the Hudson Valley?

Hudson Valley Game Stops Closing?

According to an unofficial list, the GameStop at the Hudson Valley Mall on Ulster Ave in Kingston, NY is closed but the other locations appear to still be open including the three stores in Poughkeepsie. The Newburgh, NY location is also still open according to the GameStop website as are the two stores in Middletown, NY.

We did speak to employees by phone at several of the Hudson Valley locations above and each told us that as far as they knew, their stores would remain open. If that changes or more information becomes available we will update this article.
