
Services For New York State Police Sergeant Announced
Wake and funeral services have been announced for 49-year-old New York State Police Sergeant Nigel K. Barnett of Poughkeepsie, NY.
Earlier this week, we shared the tragic news that a decorated 19-year veteran of the New York State Police was killed in an early morning motorcycle accident on the Taconic State Parkway.
Motorcycle Accident Claims Life of State Police Sergeant in East Fishkill, NY
49-year-old Sergeant Station Commander Nigel K. Barnett of Poughkeepsie, NY, was killed in a Tuesday morning accident on the southbound side of the Taconic State Parkway near mile marker 36.1 in the Town of East Fishkill.
Police said that their preliminary investigation determined that Sergeant Barnett was operating a 2025 Ducati motorcycle on the southbound side of the Taconic at approximately 6:31 a.m. when he lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle.
Sadly, Sergeant Barnett was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As news of the accident and passing of Sergeant Barnett was confirmed, an outpouring of support, condolences, and well wishes to family, friends, and colleagues began to flood social media from various law enforcement agencies and state officials.

Many also began to ask when they would be able to pay their respects to a person who dedicated their life to protecting and serving the community.
Wake & Funeral Services for Sergeant Nigel K. Barnett
According to Patrick O'Dell at Dutchess County Scanner Feed, the wake and funeral service times for Sergeant Nigel K. Barnett have been announced.
The wake will be hosted at McHoul Funeral Home, located at 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 4-8 p.m.
The funeral service will take place the following day, Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Faith Assembly of God, at 25 Golf Club Lane, Poughkeepsie, NY.
Both services are expected to draw a large number of attendees, and organizers are asking that folks plan ahead and expect delays in the area.
