Flash Flood Warning Issued For Parts of the Hudson Valley
With only a few breaks here and there, it has been raining in the Hudson Valley since Saturday, July 21. Some areas have received several inches of rain in a day and at times the rain has fallen at the rate of over an inch per hour.
This has left the ground saturated with no place else for more water to go. With a line of storms already moving through the Hudson Valley this afternoon, with more to follow with potentially heavy rainfall, there's cause for concern.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Southeastern Ulster County and Central Dutchess County until 7 pm tonight. Thunderstorms this afternoon have already dropped an inch of rain in these areas, with more on the way. Flash flooding is expected to begin soon.
If you see flooding occurring, get yourself to safe ground and please don't drive your car through water-covered roadways. You have no way of knowing how deep or fast moving the water is. Turn around, don't drown. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
